"What in Hell Creek is this...?!"
- "I really don't care as long as it's edible, mate."

Two Acheroraptor temertyorum encounter a horrible looking carcass in the nearly dried out riverbed. Unlike Homo sapiens they don't care what this body was like in life.
We just can guess what happened to that unlucky Tyrannosaurus rex. At some point it apparently died, if that happened before or after it felt in the river is unknown. While drifting in the body of water the Tyrannosaurus decomposed partially, losing most of its filamentous integument and the body became a bloated appearance. Soon after the hands and feet lost their skin as well as the face.
It would have decayed completely if it wasn't washed ashore in a period where the river runs out of water. The bloating soon disappeared, leaving a disiccated naked body.
Maybe this carcass will be completely demolished by scavengers or maybe the next flood will wash it away, where it rots and molders. Either way we will only find sparse and unarticulated remains of it. But not so fast! Maybe we have luck and it happens that it will be buried by sediments. Most bones might be preserved then and with a bit more luck we will get some impressions of its integument as well!
How would that look like after this time of decomposition? Hm... pretty much like naked skin and tiny bump-like scales, similar to a plucked bird-hide. Perfect evidence for scaly skin! :) (...but only if you virtually have no clue about how Taphonomy works...)

Featuring Avisaurus archibaldi, which took the advantage to grab some of the Tyrannosaurus' remaining plumes.
