Description

Day 17: restore a modern bird in the manner of inaccurate outdated paleoart. or like a jurassic park dinosaur
Subject: Ensifera ensifera
Completed: Thursday 14-02-20, 01:06 AM
Listened to: We Walk Walls - Critical Masses

The Sword-snouted Treebird lived in the Neotropic ecozone during the Holocene Epoch. Not much is known about this tiny creature despite that it likely climbed trees in order to hunt for its prey (insects and other arthropods).
In the background we see the calm herbivorous mammal Tremarctos ornatus which used its massive teeth to grind various plant matters. This illustration shows both animals, bird and mammal, in a rather cold alpine region, which was likely their natural habitat. It's still argued among experts how those poikilotherms could've dealed with the cold temperatures.
Some even say those animals could only inhabit such places after Globucephalus vulgaris triggered a global warming at the end of the Holocene. But this *laughs* are of course pipe dreams of Decapodiformes!

"it likely climbed trees in order to hunt for its prey (insects and other arthropods)", I'm not sure if this was intentional but this made me think of woodpeckers.
